Working up the sides to build toward the bottom of the boat. I’m going to use the “cheater strip” strategy on the bow and stern. It looks like the right path based on Nick’s recommendations.
I’m not sure how to deal with the ends. The two ends of the first course leave a gap no matter how I run them. I’m not sure what to do really. I ended up shaping them to close to a point. We’ll see how it works out.
This was a lot of fun, but the result doesn’t readily show all the work that went into putting these first strips on. The videos Nick has on creating the Petrel Play are a huge help. There is lots of shaping and tailoring for the first strips.

All the forms are secured and aligned. I’ve also moved to the new saw horses and set up the work bench. I had to clean up a bit to make sure I don’t loose anything.
I dry fit all of the forms on the strong back. You can really see the form of the boat. I discovered I needed more space under the boat while I’m building so I’m going to move to some saw horses.

The package arrived in December. I had to spend some time reclaiming the garage, but I get to start on it.
After about 15 years of thinking about it, I finally decided to pull the trigger. I bought one of Nick Schade’s strip-built kayak kits from Chesapeake Light Craft. It looks like it will be fun.
